Recently, I’ve noticed that singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks have all become very popular as a way to heal. People are feeling the benefits of vibrational healing. Well, you actually don’t need to go to a sound workshop or buy fancy gadgets to vibrate and heal.
You have the best sound healer on board that’s ready to assist your healing at any time. Your own voice!
Yes, Talking, singing, chanting, and humming can all aid in creating wellness in your whole being. The reason we believe we need to run out to a workshop, buy a gadget or rely on someone else to sound heal us — is our voice was taken away at a very young age. Remember the saying, Children Should Be Seen and Not Heard.
The Definition of that saying is:
Children can be present in a conversation but should not speak, particularly when they are around adults.
Unlike many idioms in English, the meaning of this proverb is literal. This proverb stems back to the religious views of medieval culture. The initial meaning of this proverb was that young women should not speak in the presence of adults but later evolved to include all children.
Where it came from:
This proverb has its origins in the religious culture of the 15th century, where children, particularly young women, were meant to stay silent unless spoken to or asked to speak.
This proverb first appeared in Mirk’s Festial, published by a clergyman around 1450:
Now that we know the origins of our lost voices
Let’s take our voices back from that old clergyman and shout out our truth. It’s time to vibrate sound within our bodies with humming, chanting and singing. It’s past time to share our vibration with the world.
You came here to speak your truth. The world needs to hear what you have to say.
It’s better to be heard and seen than to keep quiet.
Sing in the shower.
Hum as you work.
Join a choir.
Write a poem.
Start a blog.
Write to your senator.
We all need to hear from you. Vibrate your voice inside and out until that cultural message of it’s better to be seen than heard is gone and replaced by it’s better to be heard and seen than to keep quiet.
A little story
One of my dear students, Kara came to my yoga therapy studio to heal from years of drug addiction. In all my classes I encourage people to make noise on the out-breath. Saying, haaaa, on each exhalation.
The more Kara moved and haaaaa-ed the better she felt and soon Kara walked around saying, haaaaa — wherever she was, whoever she was with. It was so beautiful to hear and witness. The vibrational healing sound of Kara’s own voice helped her to get sober, stay clean and heal.
